Garden City leaders consider significant property tax increase, residents push back

GARDEN CITY, Ga. (WTOC) - Garden City leaders are considering a property tax increase that would raise the millage rate from four mills to just over seven, nearly doubling what homeowners currently pay.
City officials said the increase is needed to cover the fire department budget following the city’s elimination of its fire protection fee. Residents at a recent meeting called for more transparency on the proposal.
City leaders say the proposal remains under review. A public hearing is scheduled for July 20.
