Annual 5K raising funds for new Savannah women and children’s shelter set for Aug. 29

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Old Savannah City Mission will host its annual “Run for a Reason” 5K this Saturday, Aug. 29, to raise funds for a new shelter facility designed for homeless women and children.

The event will start and finish at the mission’s location at 2414 Bull Street, featuring food and music for attendees. Registration opens Saturday morning with a final packet pickup at 7 a.m., followed by the race start at 9 a.m.

The project aims to expand the mission’s capacity, which has served homeless men in the community for over 25 years.

“We are getting closer to meeting our funding goal for this project,” said Larry McDaniel, Executive Director of Old Savannah City Mission. “Once donations reach a certain level, we can get started with construction.”

According to organizers, the proposed shelter is planned to provide a safe refuge and supportive services to help women and children rebuild their lives.
