Young child “saved by grace of God” in Hampton County vehicle shooting

HAMPTON COUNTY, S.C. (WTOC) - The Hampton County Sheriff’s Office is asking for your help.

Jordan Maliek Greene is wanted and suspected of firing numerous gunshots on a car with three occupants — one being a young child — near Fox Trail Road.

Only one adult sustained a non-life threatening injury, and law enforcement was on the scene within just a couple minutes.

Anonymous tips are encouraged, and you can leave one regarding Greene’s whereabouts here.

After the incident, Hampton County Sheriff Anthony Russell spoke with the mother of the young child.

“She said ‘sheriff I have my son in the car,’ and I looked at the young man and it was nothing but the grace of God that kept him alive,” Russell said.

This was more dangerous than any average shooting, according to Russell.

“There were several shots fired and I’m not talking about small-caliber weapons, we’re talking about rifle weapons that are being used,” Russell said. “Any one of them could have gotten hurt or been killed, easily.”

This isn’t the first shooting on Fox Trail Road as of late, with another incident happening just five days before this one. The two events have been confirmed to be isolated incidents.

Russell says that a way to avoid these incidents is more widespread gunlocks, which the department provides for citizens.

“Call our office, we’ll bring [the gunlocks] to you,” Russell said. “When I go around to these community events I make sure I pass out these gun locks. They are free, lock your weapon up.”
