BRYAN COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - The Welcome To Our Community crew took a field trip to Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America in Bryan County.

Sean Evans, the Public Relations and Communications Assistant Manager took us on a tour. Evans says 1,400 people work there now. They expect to have 8,500 by 2031.

They build the IONIQ 9 and 5 there. The 2026 Hyundai IONIQ 9 is exclusively manufactured at the Bryan County plant. The megasite is about 3,000 acres roughly the size of Tybee Island.

When we entered the stamping shop, we saw the robots cranking out 13 side panels per minute. One the steel frames, called body in white and put together, they’re loaded onto automated guided vehicles.

Evans adds, “If there are any imperfections during the inspection process, it’s pulled out and recycled right here at the plant which is a way of the reducing our carbon footprint.”

In the welding department, there are more than 470 robots. The annual target is 500,000 units.

We will continue our tour of the of the Megaplant next Monday, as we go inside the General Assembly plant to see how the vehicles are put together.
