Volunteers collect donations for Brantley County wildfire evacuees
NAHUNTA, Ga. (WTOC) - Volunteers are collecting donations for residents displaced by wildfires in Brantley County.
The donation site is at the UGA Brantley County extension building on North Main Street in Nahunta, next to the county election office. Volunteers said there is a need for underwear, along with men’s and women’s clothing, shoes and children’s toys.
Celia Floweris, who works for the county Recreation Department, is volunteering at the site. She left her home and is staying in Clinch County until the wildfire threat passes.
“We have a big community, let’s bring it together. Let’s work together, let’s make sure these people are taken care of,” Floweris said. “We have three shelters right now, one has been shutdown at the moment due to the fires, but it shows us that we are capable of coming together and actually doing the work.”
The donation site is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Volunteers are asking for help, even for 30 minutes.
