TCL holds ceremony for new nursing simulation center

BEAUFORT, S.C. (WTOC) - The Technical College of the Lowcountry officially dedicate and named its new Nursing Simulation Center, Thursday. TCL faculty, staff and students attended the afternoon ceremony at the Beaufort Mather Campus.

The college says simulation has become the new gold standard in nursing education.

“It is a controlled environment where we can create practically any human scenario,” said TCL Nursing Program Director and School of Nursing Interim Dean Vandy Amason.

The new center includes two mock hospital rooms, classroom space and a control room with new technology. There are also mechanized mannequins that stand in for patients. This is all designed to allow nursing students a chance to practice patient care with no harm to a real patient.

“Students like the technology,” said Amason. “They like the challenge, but mostly they like that it is a safe learning environment.”

The new center is located at the college’s Beaufort Mather Campus. It’s made possible through a donation from Stephanie “Stevie” and Frank Raiti (ray-tee) of Hilton Head Island. And the center is named in their honor.
