Savannah named among Top 12 U.S. cities to watch on environmental health
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Savannah is receiving national recognition for its work addressing environmental health challenges.
The Community Data Health Initiative, in partnership with the African American Mayors Association, named Savannah one of the Top 12 AAMA Cities to Watch on Environmental Health. Savannah was recognized in the category of extreme heat, alongside other cities across the country.
The initiative highlights cities leading efforts to address environmental threats such as air quality, extreme heat and lead service line replacement. Organizers say mayors submitted videos outlining programs, policies and partnerships underway or planned to improve environmental health in their communities.
Savannah and the other selected cities will be featured in an ongoing national campaign spotlighting environmental health leadership and will have opportunities to share their work with mayors nationwide.
The Community Data Health Initiative is a collaboration involving the Bloomberg Center for Cities at Harvard University, the Environmental Defense Fund, the African American Mayors Association and Meharry Medical College.
