Savannah/Hilton Head Airport to add four new gates, more flights
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport plans to add new gates and more flights, and travelers are already seeing improvements.
“The whole region is really growing,” says Lori Lynah, the Senior Director of Marketing and Air Service Development for the airport.
With Savannah’s tourism industry booming, more flights into the hostess city are needed to keep up with demand.
“Right now, we’re full,” says Lynah.
The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport is currently undergoing an expansion, adding four new gates to the current terminal.
“We’ve seen that year over year, we’ve surpassed where we were before COVID...We’re keeping on schedule with things that we’ve had planned for many years.”
Once these new gates at the Savannah airport are added, more daily flights and more airlines will be taking off from the hostess city. It’s not the only expansion hitting the airport.
In November, the airport completed its terminal security checkpoint expansion. And already, travelers should be feeling a difference.
Lynah says, “it’s a vast improvement as well it increases the throughput, we don’t have lines most of the time all the way out into the square...we have different options now too.”
The airport is also getting even more renovation projects next year to freshen things up inside.
The Savannah/Hilton Head International Airport’s gate expansion project is expected to wrap up by next summer.
