Residents express concerns as controversial Hyundai Wells go online
BULLOCH COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - In just a couple months, the first controversial Hyundai water well will go online in Bulloch County.
Some residents there say they are already seeing the impacts these wells are having on their water.
Bulloch County commissioners have approved three separate well drilling companies to be on call if any locals within the five mile radius of a Hyundai well sees negative impacts of the wells in their own water.
Officials with the groundwater sustainability program say these three well drillers will serve as an extra layer of protection.
When the wells go online, residents who see problems with their water can make a claim to the groundwater sustainability board.
These three well drillers will then be on call to examine the problem.
Despite these protective measures, residents are still fearful of what these plant wells will do to the wells that produce water for hundreds of families in the county.
Kristen Stampfer, a resident, has been petitioning these Hyundai wells for two years.
She says her and other residents in the five-mile radius have already been collecting claims while the wells are being built and tested.
“We are keeping track of all citizen complaints that have come to us like water loss of pressure, quality, taste, different things like that,” said Stampfer. “Anything that has been brought to our attention we log in a book.”
Officials with the groundwater program tell me they expect the first well to go online by September.
