Rep. Mike Collins announces bid for US Senate

by Tim Darnell

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - U.S. Rep. Mike Collins, the 10th congressional district lawmaker who authored the first bill to pass this year’s newly elected Congress and the first bill signed by President Donald Trump only days into his second term, is running for U.S. Senate.

On Monday, Collins announced he is running to unseat U.S. Sen. Jon Ossoff, a Democrat who is facing reelection, in 2026. He did so by posting the message, “I’m in,” with a new campaign ad on X.

One video shared on X to Collins’ campaign account @TeamOverhaulGA, is getting attention, but for the wrong reason. The word Georgia was misspelled with “GEORIGA, LET’S RIDE.”

Collins’ decision to enter the race came after outgoing Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp decided not to run for the seat.

“Jon Ossoff does not represent Georgia’s values and has attacked out states’ best interests at every opportunity,” Collins said in a statement. “He’s voted to raise taxes on Georgia families, supercharge inflation, open our Southern Border and allow men to play in women’s sports.”

Collins authored the Laken Riley Act, named after the former University of Georgia nursing student whose body was found on the campus in 2024. Jose Ibarra, an undocumented immigrant who federal officials confirmed was in the U.S. illegally, was convicted last year in Riley’s murder.

“This is Georgia’s moment. This is the people’s time to take back control of this Senate seat, deliver on President Trump’s ‘America First’ agenda and kick Jon Ossoff to the curb - and together, that’s exactly what we will do next November,” Collins said.
