Sheriff Jordan Kight told WTOC’s Julianne Sheehan in an exclusive interview Tuesday that 76-year-old Grace Edge is accused of shooting and killing her ex-husband, Wallace Edge, and his girlfriend, Pamela Cook. Kight said Edge is also accused of shooting the girlfriend’s mother, Diane Cook, who then called 911.
The 911 call
Diane Cook called dispatchers after her daughter and her daughter’s boyfriend were shot in front of her. Grace Edge then turned the gun on Cook, hitting her in the arm.
In the recording, Cook tells the dispatcher, “She just come in start shooting.” When asked whether Edge came in shooting or came in and began arguing first, Cook says, “No she come in just shooting.”
Timeline of the shooting
Toombs County Sheriff’s deputies received the call from a home on McNatt Falls Road around 2:30 p.m. Monday. When they arrived, Wallace Edge and Pamela Cook were already dead.
Kight said Grace and Wallace Edge were divorced for more than a decade. He said the sheriff’s office has received unconfirmed reports that the two maintained an on-again, off-again relationship.
“Mr. Edge had started dating Pamela, and it appears that based on information we received that Grace was not accepting of the situation,” Kight said.
According to the 911 call, Edge fired five rounds, four hitting Wallace Edge and Pamela Cook and one hitting Diane Cook. Edge then turned herself in.
“We believe she had drove straight from the residence where this happened and drove straight here to the sheriff’s office,” Kight said.
History of domestic disputes
Kight said before the Edges’ divorce, deputies had been called to their home at least a dozen times for domestic disputes and incidents. He said both parties would report each other, but no arrests were ever made.
Kight described the community as quiet and tight-knit.
“When something like this happens it is a shock and awe type feel to our community,” Kight said.
Charges filed
Edge has been charged with seven counts, including malice murder, felony murder and aggravated assault. The investigation is being conducted by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
