ILA Group hosts health event for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The ILA Group, one of Savannah’s largest employers, hosted a health care event for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Event highlights statistics
The event recognized the 1 in 8 women and 10% of men who are diagnosed with breast cancer. The ILA Group brought in health care professionals to teach attendees and share community resources that could save lives.
Early detection emphasized
Speakers discussed the importance of early detection and said people should not wait for something to feel wrong before going to the doctor.
“So you want a mammogram to find your lump or any changes before you feel it, so that’s why it’s important to have your screening mammograms done yearly,” said Dr. Carolyn Eiland, chief clinical officer at Curtis V. Cooper Primary Healthcare.
Medical experts reminded the public that mammograms save lives and urged people to schedule and attend their appointments.
