Rep. Edna Jackson delivers farewell to Georgia House
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Former Savannah Mayor and current Georgia House District 165 Representative Edna Jackson is saying farewell at the State Capitol.
Jackson announced she will not run for re-election, bringing an end to her seven-year tenure representing House District 165.
Jackson made history in 2012 when she became Savannah’s first Black female mayor.
Before serving as mayor, Jackson spent years in city government, including three terms as an alderwoman and two terms as mayor pro-tem.
In her farewell remarks to the House in Atlanta, Jackson looked back on her early years, recalling her time as a young person on the front lines of the civil rights movement.
Jackson also told colleagues she will miss them after years of working together under the Gold Dome.
