Over a dozen potholes leave Long County neighbors furious

by Jasmine Butler

LONG COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - People living in Long County are sharing their frustrations about more than a dozen potholes in their neighborhood.

Several of them have even had to get their cars fixed after driving over them.

WTOC talked to residents there who said they’re frustrated and pleading for help.

We talked to several neighbors that live in the neighborhood that say they’ve had to fill some of these potholes with their own money, on their own time.

One was a 75-year-old woman who says she just wants someone to listen and help.

“The holes kept getting bigger and this one broke off which is directly in front of my driveway,” said Long County resident, Lydia King.

King usually spends a lot of her day exercising and swimming.

But the 75-year-old never thought she’d be using that energy to fill these potholes outside of her Long County home.

“It’s horrible, it really is. And it seems like no one really cares about us out here in the county,” said King.

But it doesn’t stop on her street.

Just one street over it’s a bumpy ride.

Something King says has damaged her car.

“I had to have two front end alignments done on my car because of them holes,” said King.

Neighbors like Danielle Fontaine said they’ve been trying to get help for years.

“When you go to like the city and say hey the roads are really bad, it’s messing up cars and damaging people’s vehicles, oh we don’t have anything to do with it,” said Fontaine.

WTOC reached out to county commission chairman James Craft to see if anything was being done to fix these holes.

We did not hear back.

As for the residents in Long County.

“We’re very much aggravated with the situation. Just fix the road, do what’s right, fix the road,” said Fontaine.
