New surgical robot providing minimally invasive surgeries makes debut in local hospital
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A Savannah hospital is showing off some new cutting-edge surgical equipment that could cut down your time under the knife and in recovery.
WTOC visited the St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital to get the first look at the new equipment.
The newest advancement in robotic surgery just arrived at St. Joseph’s/Candler Hospital.
This new technology is 10,000 times stronger than the previous technology used before, it also uses AI and previous surgeon knowledge to have a better outcome for patient surgeries.
“I want patients to know that we have the newest technology in the City of Savannah to treat their benign or cancer conditions. There’s no other center that you go to that has a more advanced surgical robot,” said Thoracic and Cardiac surgeon, Dr. Marc Bailey.
The robot allows doctors to offer surgeries they couldn’t before, robotically keeping you safer in the operating room.
The new technology is minimally invasive and should reduce recovery time.
“Shorter hospital stay, and quicker return to their activities of daily life, so it gets them through this process that can be obviously very tough for many patients faster and easier,” said Dr. Bailey.
The manager of the operating room, Callie Cliatt, explained how this new technology works.
“They sit in the corner at their console, kind of like a video game, and it’s very interactive, and they have hand controls there that control multiple arms and perform the surgery from across the room essentially,” said Cliatt.
The doctors at St. Joseph’s/Candler said the new device should be operating in the operating rooms by next week.
