Mighty Eighth Air Force Marks 84 Years of History in Savannah
POOLER, Ga. (WTOC) - A major milestone in World War II history is being marked in the Savannah area as the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force celebrates the 84th anniversary of the Eighth Air Force.
To honor the occasion, the museum is offering $8 admission for one day only, inviting the public to explore the history and legacy of the air force known as the “Greatest Air Armada of All Time.” The anniversary commemorates January 28, 1942, when the Eighth Air Force was officially chartered in Savannah.
Visitors will have access to the museum’s immersive exhibits, including a fully restored B-17 Flying Fortress and the popular Mission Experience, which recreates a World War II bombing mission using authentic footage and sound.
The National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force is located at 175 Bourne Avenue in Pooler. The special $8 admission offer is available on Wednesday, January 28. Regular museum hours are Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sundays from noon to 5 p.m.
