Liberty County welcomes company expansion that could help workers affected by Riceboro mill closure
LIBERTY COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Wood truss manufacturer Atlantic Building Components is set to expand from the Carolinas into Georgia, with their new branch coming to the Hinesville Technology Park.
“We’re thrilled that we have new activity and new energy in that park after about a decade,” said Liberty County Development Authority CEO Brynn Grant.
This comes weeks after the announcement of International Paper’s closure in Riceboro, and offers job opportunities to those who were laid off.
“Hopefully we’ll be able to employ some of those workers as we get going,” said Atlantic Building Components CEO Jimmy Broach.
Broach says says 25-to-30 jobs will be made available once it’s up and running, but that number could very easily rise to over a hundred with the branch looking to grow in size.
“The site that we have there is easily, you know has the room to get to that size,” Broach said. “We are building so that we’re able to expand.”
The Liberty County Development Authority said that this is something that Atlantic Building Components reached out to them about, with a plan in place. This was largely due to them already serving people in the Savannah area.
The company will extend its services within a two-and-a-half-hour driving radius, and is the first new business in the Hinesville Technology Park for a decade.
