Investigators search for second, possibly third suspect in Chatham County stalking case
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Nathaniel Crawford was arrested within hours of authorities launching their search for him, but new evidence suggests the alleged serial stalker did not act alone.
The Chatham County Sheriff’s Office is now appealing to the public to help identify at least two other suspects connected to a series of stalking incidents and attempted kidnappings that have left residents of the Savannah area on high alert.
The investigation began when an elderly resident of The View at Oglethorpe came forward to report harassment at her home. Chatham County Sheriff Richard Coleman praised her quick action and diligence.
“She said ‘sheriff, I need your help,’” Coleman said. “She took her time to talk to her sheriff and she was a true champ. She documented her incidents, she had all her notations.”
Her detailed account led investigators to Crawford’s swift arrest. However, during subsequent interviews with alleged victims, lead investigator Trey Conners uncovered evidence that Crawford was not working alone.
Investigators are actively seeking a second suspect who was identified through victim interviews. According to Conners, surveillance video from The View at Oglethorpe captured this man on camera.
The investigation has expanded further, with authorities also investigating a possible third suspect.
Investigators say Crawford was seen frequenting stores with another man, and this third suspect was captured on camera in a disturbing incident in east Savannah—confronting and allegedly attempting to kidnap a victim.
Investigators spoke with multiple victims throughout the investigation, all of whom expressed deep concern for their safety. Many declined to speak publicly, citing ongoing threats.
“Every victim involved in this case didn’t think it would happen to them,” Conners told investigators.
Savannah Mayor Van Johnson emphasized the importance of residents coming forward with information, particularly before crimes occur.
“We need people to come forward beforehand,” Johnson said. “Coming forward afterhand helps with the prosecution of that individual, but if it’s not right, if it doesn’t seem right, let us know.”
If you recognize the suspect shown in surveillance video from The View at Oglethorpe or have information about anyone else involved in this case, the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office is asking for your help.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call 912-644-5136 immediately.
