I-95 Colleton Co. collision details: 16 vehicles, 10 hospitalized, 2 dead
YEMASSEE, Sc. (WTOC) - [UPDATE as of 7/23/2025]: Wednesday, the South Carolina Highway Patrol said they are investigating two collisions from Tuesday afternoon in Colleton County.
SCHP says the first collision involved three vehicles, one of the three was a commercial motor vehicle.
One person was taken to the hospital following this collision.
Shortly after, a second collision involving 13 vehicles, happened at the same location.
Six of the vehicles involved in the second collision were commercial motor vehicles. According to SCHP, the 13-vehicle collision sent nine people to surrounding hospitals and resulted in two deaths.
SCHP reported that southbound lanes on I-95, at mile marker 41 closed for around 11 hours while traffic was diverted to an alternate route.
The South Carolina Highway Patrol said they are investigating this crash.
[ORIGINAL STORY]: The South Carolina Highway Patrol reported a fatal accident involving multiple vehicles at around 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday, shutting down Interstate 95 for nearly 12 hours.
Details are limited at this time, but they reported a multi-vehicle fatal collision in the late afternoon on I-95 southbound near mile marker 41, which is past Highway 21 before entering Hampton County.
SCHP reported the major interstate was reopened at around 2:30 a.m. on Wednesday.
