Griggs, Hollowell head to runoff in Democratic primary for Georgia’s 1st Congressional District
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Joyce Marie Griggs and Amanda Hollowell will face each other in a runoff next month in the Democratic primary for Georgia’s 1st Congressional District.
Griggs was the top vote-getter but received less than 50 percent of the vote in Tuesday’s primary. Hollowell finished second.
Eight Democratic candidates competed for the U.S. House seat currently held by Republican Buddy Carter.
Candidates sat at watch parties across the district Tuesday night. WTOC caught up with Griggs and Hollowell about their candidacies and what they will bring to the table.
Voters said they have their top choice but that the pool of candidates was strong and they will not be disappointed by any result.
“This campaign has always been about people” said Hollowell in a statement to WTOC. “The families working hard to make ends meet, the young people fighting for their future, the seniors who deserve dignity, and the communities too often overlooked by politics as usual. We are incredibly proud of what we built together in this first phase of the race, and we are ready to continue this movement into the runoff.”
WTOC sent all qualified candidates a questionnaire, asking them to share their key issues ahead of Election Day, click here to see their responses.
