Georgia must remove gender ideology from state program or lose millions

by Tim Darnell

ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Georgia could lose more than $4.5 million in federal education funding if it doesn’t remove all references to gender ideology from a state program.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services demanded 46 states and territories remove all references to gender ideology in their federally funded Personal Responsibility Education Program (PREP) educational materials within 60 days.

“This action reflects the Trump Administration’s ongoing commitment to protecting children from attempts to indoctrinate them with delusional ideology,” the department said.

Georgia’s PREP is administered through the state’s Division of Family and Children Services. According to the department’s website, the program’s goal is “to reduce the occurrence of pregnancy, HIV, and STIs among high-risk youth ages 10 to 19 who participate in PREP.”

Last week, the department terminated California’s PREP grant after the state failed to meet its demand.

“Failure to comply will result in similar enforcement actions, including the withholding, suspension, or termination of federal PREP funding,” the department said.

Georgia is among 40 states and six U.S. territories that have been put on notice. Only New York ($6,028,068) and Pennsylvania ($4,633,568) stand to lose more than Georgia’s $4,507,495.

“Accountability is coming,” said acting Assistant Secretary Andrew Gradison. “Federal funds will not be used to poison the minds of the next generation or advance dangerous ideological agendas. The Trump Administration will ensure that PREP reflects the intent of Congress, not the priorities of the left.”
