Jasper County man charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a minor

JASPER COUNTY, Sc. (WTOC) - The Jasper County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 27-year-old man on a charge of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor.

According to the sheriff’s office, Jose Roberto Kanishige was arrested following an investigation that began in February after allegations involving a minor were reported to investigators.

Authorities said warrants were obtained after an extensive investigation into the allegations.

On May 19, deputies took Kanishige into custody from the Effingham County Jail in Georgia and transported him to Jasper County.

He was booked into the Jasper County Detention Center, where he remains in custody.

The sheriff’s office said no additional information will be released because of the nature of the case and to protect the privacy of the victim.

The investigation remains ongoing.
