City of Vidalia Fire Department retires firefighter’s call sign 1 year after passing

VIDALIA, Ga. (WTOC) - It has been almost a year since Firefighter Wesley Ward passed away.

This weekend The City of Vidalia’s Fire Department retired his call sign, number 28.

The ceremony took place at Station 2 and continued to his sister and mother’s home. The fire department says Wesley, was dedicated to his family, friends, and being a firefighter.

He loved this community and the people in it. He was a lifelong friend and has been truly missed this past year, the department says.

In addition to retiring his radio call sign, flags were also lowered at Fire Station 2 in his honor.

“I would like to personally thank all who were involved and a part of the celebration yesterday. The members of the Vidalia Fire Department, Vidalia Police Department, Toombs Montgomery EMS, Higgston Fire, Lyons Fire, Toombs County Fire and the Toombs County Sheriff’s Department,” wrote the City of Vidalia Fire Department in a social media post.
