Bryan County students set to compete in Hydrogen Grand Prix World Finals
BRYAN COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A group of students from Bryan County Middle High School are traveling to Germany to compete in the Hydrogen Grand Prix (H2GP) World Finals next week.
Thursday, Hyundai Motor Group presented the students with a $5,500 check to use on their trip.
H2GP is a program that challenges participant to design, engineer, build and race their own hydrogen-powered cars.
Two teams — ThoseWhoKnow and Hydro Hunters — from the school competed in a race earlier this year, earning them a ticket overseas for the World Finals held in Chemnitz.
On Wednesday, the students and their coaches will fly to Germany, going head-to-head with competitors from across the globe.
Hayden Howard is part of the all-girls middle school team, Hydro Hunters. She joined the program not knowing what to expect.
Over the past year, she fell in love with the program. Now, her and her teammates have the honor of representing Georgia in the World Finals.
“It feels great. We to represent where we live, what we’re from and what we do. And it’s just an amazing feeling. It’s a great opportunity,” said Howard.
The school’s Instructional Technology Specialist Joey Mitchell says this will be the trip of a lifetime for many students — some of whom have never been to Europe.
