177 people arrested in Georgia after six-week ‘Operation No Escape’
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - U.S. Marshals Service and the FBI have announced the results of Operation No Escape, which they call a six-week surge of resources to track down fugitives across Georgia.
The coordinated effort between federal, state, and local authorities led to the capture of 177 fugitives, officials say, with 5 of those captured in the Savannah and Brunswick area and 9 coming from Augusta and Statesboro.
Officials say these numbers include 28 fugitives wanted for murder, homicide, or manslaughter, 60 people charged with assault, and eight men accused of crimes against children.
Fifty-six of the fugitives were captured by arrest teams led by the U.S. Marshals Service.
The U.S. Marshals Service says Operation No Escape was a targeted effort to apprehend fugitives with violent crime warrants in categories such as homicide, assault, sexual assault, robbery, burglary, drug distribution, and crimes against children.
Officials say they captured the following:
- 106 people in Metro Atlanta
- 27 people in Columbus/Albany/Valdosta
- 16 people in Macon and Athens
- 11 people at HJ-ATL Airport
- 9 people in Augusta and Statesboro
- 5 people in Savannah and Brunswick
- 15 people in Cartersville, Dalton and Gainesville
The U.S. Marshals Service says 31 of the fugitives had charges originating with Atlanta Police, 25 in Dekalb County, 10 in Henry County, and six in the remainder of Fulton County.

Fugitives from 58 different jurisdictions across Georgia were taken into custody during Operation No Escape, including the Pooler Police Department, Rincon Police Department, and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation.
