Watching the Gulf for possible development

by Andrew Gorton

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - As we head into the weekend, we are monitoring the Gulf where a weak area of low pressure could develop.

For the Gulf coast of Florida specifically, poor beach and boating conditions are expected. In addition to the cloud cover and rainfall, the risk for rip currents will be increased for those visiting Gulf beaches.

Watching the Gulf for possible development

Although the chance for development is low, this system could gradually drift over northern Florida or the Southeast coast early next week.

Conditions aren’t the most favorable for development, but sea surface temperatures are in the 80s, so we will continue to keep watch.

If anything, we could see an increase in rip currents along the Georgia and South Carolina coastline early next week, along with an increased chance for showers.

Our local impacts, if any, will be dependent on where this system tracks over the next few days.

As a reminder, July is not typically an active month. Tropical activity traditionally picks up in August and September. Use this weekend to make sure your hurricane plan is up to date!

As always, we will keep you updated.
