VIDEO: Jacksonville police take 2 into custody in Baxley kidnapping of 13-year-old

BAXLEY, Ga. (WTOC) - New video shows Jacksonville police taking two people into custody in connection with the kidnapping of a 13-year-old girl from a Baxley home.

Johnathan Kelly and Giavannie Carter are both charged with kidnapping and home invasion, among other charges, following the July 16 incident.

What happened in Baxley

According to Baxley Police, a 911 call came from a home on James Drive on July 16 reporting that Giavannie Carter had a knife and was beating on the door. Police said Carter and Kelly entered the home and forcefully took her biological child. The pair then crossed state lines into Florida with the child.

Teen found at Jacksonville motel

The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office and FBI located the vehicle at the Scottish Inn at 2300 Phillips Highway. Law enforcement then executed a search warrant and found the teen unharmed. The Appling County Sheriff’s Office confirmed 13-year-old Layla Alexis Nubian Carter was located in Jacksonville, Florida.

Charges

Giavannie Carter is charged with kidnapping, home invasion and aggravated assault. Kelly is charged with kidnapping, home invasion, probation violation and other charges out of Jacksonville.
