Pembroke man arrested after hourslong standoff following traffic stop

BRYAN COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A man was arrested Monday, days after a traffic stop led to an hourslong standoff with law enforcement, according to the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office.
A Georgia State Patrol trooper tried to pull over a black Cadillac Escalade on Georgia Highway 119 Friday evening. The driver refused to stop and eventually pulled into a residential driveway along the highway, the sheriff’s office said.
The driver, identified as Cassius Hardel Gray, got out of the vehicle, claimed to be a federal agent and ran inside the home, according to the release. A short time later, Gray came back outside holding a rifle before retreating back into the home, the sheriff’s office said. The trooper was not injured.
Additional law enforcement agencies responded to the scene, and officials worked for several hours to negotiate Gray’s surrender, according to the release. Gray was not taken into custody that day. Instead, authorities secured arrest warrants and arrested him Monday at the Pembroke Police Department without incident.
Gray faces several charges, including aggravated assault on a public safety officer, obstruction of a law enforcement officer, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and unlawful use of a wireless device, according to the sheriff’s office.
Gray is being held at the Bryan County Jail awaiting bond and arraignment, the sheriff’s office said.
