Trolley tour brings free school supplies to Savannah hospitality, tourism families

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - A unique mobile initiative hit the streets of Savannah on Friday to help the children of hospitality and tourism workers gear up for the upcoming school year.

“Chosen for the Arts” officially kicked off its “Touring Toward Tomorrow” back-to-school tour. Boarding a local trolley, organizers traveled directly to hospitality workers downtown to hand-deliver backpacks and essential school supplies to their children.

The initiative partnered with several local businesses, including Old Town Trolley Tours, North Point Hospitality, and the Savannah Convention Center, to make scheduled stops across the downtown historic district.

Organizers noted that the goal of the mobile drive is to support families preparing for the school year while showing deep appreciation for the workforce that fuels Savannah’s tourism industry.

“Today we had an opportunity to donate over 75 bookbags along with school supplies,” organizers said. “We wanted to make sure we came together with these other amazing organizations and businesses and gave back this school year.”

By bringing the supplies directly to workers on their shifts, organizers said they hoped to meet families where they are and honor the individuals who welcome millions of visitors to the Hostess City each year.
