SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The City of Savannah Municipal Archives Department is inviting residents to help preserve local history by sharing personal stories, photographs and memories through the “Your Savannah Story” campaign.

The campaign is part of the Savannah Community Memory Project, an effort to collect community stories and historical materials for future generations.

The next Memory Collection Drop-In Day will be held Wednesday, July 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the Archives & History Room on the first floor of City Hall, located at 2 E. Bay St.

Residents are encouraged to bring photographs, postcards, building plans, scrapbooks, newsletters and other keepsakes that reflect Savannah’s history and community life.

Items will be scanned and returned on-site.

Participants may also choose to share memories on camera or take part in a traditional oral history interview.

Municipal Archives is especially interested in stories and materials related to Savannah neighborhoods, landmarks, community events, local leaders and food traditions.

You can email Archives@Savannahga.gov to reserve a spot or ask questions. You can also call 912-651-4212.
