Savannah Kroger hosts regional grocery bagging championship

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Some of Coastal Georgia’s best grocery baggers will put their skills to the test this week during Kroger’s annual Bag-Off competition.

The event takes place Wednesday, June 17, at 9 a.m. at the Kroger store on Mall Boulevard in Savannah.

Contestants from across the region will compete for the opportunity to advance to Kroger’s Georgia Bag-Off championship in Atlanta.

Judges will score competitors on speed, bag-building technique, weight distribution, overall style, appearance and attitude.

Kroger officials say each contestant spends a significant portion of their workday assisting customers by bagging groceries and helping create a positive shopping experience.

The winner of the Georgia championship will move on to compete against top baggers from other retailers during the Georgia Food Industry Association convention in Florida.

Customers and community members are invited to attend and cheer on the competitors.
