Over 500K votes cast as SC sees record early voting turnout

COLUMBIA, S.C. (WIS) - South Carolina is seeing record turnout for early voting after a little less than a week.
The South Carolina Election Commission said that as of 3 p.m. Monday, nearly 564,000 ballots had been cast during the early voting window. It marks a new record for early voting in a gubernatorial election - surpassing the 2022 mark of 561,563.
Data provided by the commission earlier Monday showed that 138,378 ballots were cast statewide between Friday and Saturday. Full data from Monday’s turnout will be available on Tuesday.
Greenville, Charleston and Richland counties have seen the highest turnout thus far, with each seeing over 40,000 ballots cast.
Horry, York, Spartanburg, Lexington, Berkeley, Beaufort and Aiken rounded out the top 10.
The first day of the early voting window on Oct. 19 saw more than double the turnout compared to the 2022 midterm election. That number was slightly down from the 2024 presidential election.
Other details, such as voter participation by party affiliation, are not made available in a general election.
South Carolina’s early voting period runs through Oct. 31. Click/tap here for more information.
