Nearly 4 million truck drivers celebrated for keeping America moving this week

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - National Truck Driver Appreciation Week is recognizing the nearly 75,000 professional drivers who keep goods moving across Georgia.

Their impact is especially visible at the Port of Savannah, which handled nearly 5.7 million twenty-foot equivalent container units in 2025—its second-busiest year on record.

The port also manages approximately 14,000 to 16,000 truck moves each weekday. Drivers transport cargo from the docks to stores, manufacturers and communities across Georgia and the country.

From food and medicine to vehicles and building materials, Georgia’s 74,640 professional truck drivers serve as a critical link in the supply chain.
