Motorcyclist dead following crash near Bradley Boulevard in Chatham County

CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A motorcyclist was killed in a crash along Georgia State Route 25 near Bradley Boulevard at 7:52 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 20.

Chatham County law enforcement asked for help from Georgia State Patrol Post 42 Rincon after discovering the fatal crash involving a vehicle and a motorcycle.

Georgia State Patrol troopers and local agencies investigated the deadly wreck. At the scene, they found the vehicle did not yield while taking a left turn onto Bradley Boulevard, causing the vehicle to collide with the motorcycle. The motorcyclist was ejected.

The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene as a result of the injuries from the crash.

Motor vehicle crash report reveals driver arrested for DUI

According to a vehicle crash report, two witnesses both provided statements consistent with the physical evidence and said they believed the vehicle that failed to yield was traveling at a high speed before the collision, according to GSP.

The driver of the vehicle showed physical signs of impairment, according to GSP. The report said the driver was read his Miranda Rights and told the investigating trooper he understood his rights but did not wish to speak with them.

The report said the driver was arrested on a charge of driving under the influence of alcohol. He was read Georgia’s Implied Consent Notice for those 21 and older and refused to provide a blood sample. A search warrant for Driver 1’s blood was obtained and executed, according to GSP.

Booking records show 39-year-old Joseph Houston was arrested on Sept. 20 by Georgia State Patrol. Records show Houston was charged with homicide by vehicle in the first degree, DUI and failure to yield right of way.

WTOC responds to scene of the crash

According to WTOC’s crew, northbound Ogeechee Road was shut down starting at Mulberry Drive. Law enforcement said the road was shut down for around two hours during the crash investigation.

Georgia State troopers also requested assistance from the Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team Troop F, who responded to the scene.

Drivers were encouraged to avoid the area and use I-95.
