Metter juvenile charged after threat against high school faculty, staff and students

METTER, Ga. (WTOC) - A juvenile was arrested after allegedly making a threat to carry out a violent act against faculty, staff and students at Metter High School.
Investigators used the tip to identify the juvenile and found them at an address inside the city limits of Metter. The juvenile was taken into custody while investigators gathered facts, collected evidence and conducted interviews.
Investigators charged the juvenile with Criminal Attempt to Commit Murder and Terroristic Threats and Acts.
Students are set to return to the classroom in Candler County on August 3.
Agencies coordinated on response
The Metter Police Department said they also contacted the Candler County School District about the incident. Chief McKinley Lewis said he spoke with Sheriff John Miles early in the investigation and shared information with the Investigations Division of the Candler County Sheriff’s Office.
“We would also. like to thank our community partners such as; Candler County School System/District, Middle Judicial Circuit DA Office, GBI SRDEO, Department of Juvenile Justice, Candler County Hospital, Candler County SO for helping make Metter a safer place,” wrote the department on social media.
The department asked the public to report any acts or threats of violence immediately to law enforcement.
