Its more than cutting hair: how a barbershop leads a donation drive for an Effingham County family after a house fire

SPRINGFIELD, Ga. (WTOC) — An Effingham County family is safe but is rebuilding after losing their home in a house fire this past weekend.

No one was hurt in the fire, but the family lost their house and both cars. Old Towne Barbers in Springfield is running a donation drive to help them get back on their feet.

What started as a Facebook post grew into a community-wide effort, with donations of clothing, household items, gift cards and money coming in.

The family has asked not to be identified. Shop owner Jacob Koshinski, owner and barber at Old Towne Barbers, described the response.

“For like six hours, I mean, people wouldn’t stop showing up and they dropped off a ton of stuff and when the family whenever they came to pick up some stuff, they didn’t know they were gonna get any help and they saw how much the community had showed up for them,” Koshinski said.

Donations can be dropped off at Old Towne Barbers on 102 N Laurel St.
