The winning designs will be built this spring through a partnership with NewSpring Church of Hardeeville, the school said.

How students designed the gardens

Students first decided on a goal for their outdoor learning space. They researched plants of South Carolina and learned about the relationships between plants and animals, according to the school.

Using what they learned, students designed a garden to meet their needs. They measured the space in the courtyard and made a scale model of their design.

Voting and winners

Students and staff voted on their favorite proposals. The school congratulated the winners and the students who took part.
