Governor Kemp appoints commission to review Guyton Councilman accused of theft

by Lindsey Stenger

GUYTON, Ga. (WTOC) - Governor Brian Kemp is now stepping in when it comes to deciding the future of a recently indicted city council man.

Guyton City Councilman Theodore Hamby was arrested in March.

Then last month he was indicted on charges of financial transaction fraud and making false statements.

Thursday, Governor Kemp issued an executive order to appoint a review commission to determine Hamby’s future in office.

The community of Guyton have had questions ever since the 26-year-old city councilman was arrested back in March.

According to the GBI, his charges stem from his position on city council and his misuse of a city credit card.

Shortly after his arrest the mayor of Guyton sent Hamby a formal letter requesting him to resign from his appointed seat… that didn’t happen.

Now, under Kemp’s executive order a review commission has 14 days to look over the indictments and accusations.

Then it must give a written report as to if Hamby should be suspended from office.

We also know the commission includes Attorney General Chris Carr, Perry City councilman Dan Peterson and Fitzgerald City Councilman Tommy Roberts.
