Effingham Parkway opening delayed to 2027 following flooding repairs

PORT WENTWORTH, Ga. (WTOC) - The highly anticipated opening of the Effingham Parkway has been delayed, with completion now pushed back to 2027 due to necessary roadwork following past flooding.
Port Wentworth Mayor Tracy Saunders shared the update on Wednesday, announcing that the parkway’s opening is now projected for the spring or summer of 2027.
According to Mayor Saunders, a section of the roadway must be completely redone. This comes after flooding damaged the area in August 2025.
The additional construction and design changes are intended to fortify the stretch of road and prevent future flooding issues along that section of the parkway.
Residents who have questions or seek further details can contact the Mayor’s office directly at 912-412-7710 or via email at tsaunders@portwentworthga.gov.
