Georgia to offer free fishing day for residents Sept. 26

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Georgia residents can fish across the state without a license later this month as part of National Hunting and Fishing Day celebrations.

The Georgia Department of Natural Resources’ Wildlife Resources Division announced that Saturday, Sept. 26, is designated as a free fishing day statewide.

On that day, Georgia residents do not need a fishing license or a trout license to cast a line in any public waters across the state, including public lakes, streams, ponds and public fishing areas.

The free fishing day coincides with an official proclamation signed by Gov. Brian Kemp recognizing National Hunting and Fishing Day in Georgia. State wildlife officials are hosting 12 events across Georgia on Sept. 26, featuring family fishing activities and outdoor adventure days that offer archery, shooting sports and conservation education.

National Hunting and Fishing Day was established by Congress in 1972 to recognize the contributions of hunters and anglers toward conservation efforts.
