Andrews is projected to win the U.S. Senate seat in South Carolina, the Associated Press has called.

During a speech on Election Night, Andrews stated, “I think we just made some history.”

Democrat Jermaine Johnson conceded to Republican Alan Wilson in the race for governor. The race was much closer than polls had led on.

There are also many key races nationwide that will decide if Republicans keep the U.S. House and Senate, or if Democrats will gain control of one or both chambers.

On Tuesday, South Carolina broke its record for the number of votes in a gubernatorial election.
