Flock cameras, data centers take center stage at Savannah candidate town hall

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Local voters had the opportunity to question candidates and state leaders directly during a community town hall Wednesday evening in Savannah.

Savannah Indivisible hosted the “Focus on the Future” forum at the Otis S. Johnson Cultural Arts Center, bringing together participants to address key issues facing the region.

Discussion focused on a range of topics, including proposed data centers, the use of Flock surveillance cameras, reproductive freedom and affordable healthcare access.

David Dillie, the Democratic candidate running for Georgia House District 161, addressed growing privacy concerns surrounding automated license plate readers.

“Hopefully we can get control of these Flock cameras. I understand privacy concerns,” Dillie said. “When I leave my neighborhood they are following me. There has got to be a line between safety and now violating people’s rights.”

Dillie faces incumbent Republican Rep. Bill Hitchens in the Nov. 3 general election.

Early voting in Georgia begins Oct. 13.
