Flags at Statesboro City Hall lowered to half-staff honoring Bulloch County public defender

STATESBORO, Ga. (WTOC) - Statesboro Mayor Jonathan McCollar ordered flags at Statesboro City Hall to be lowered to half-staff through Friday in honor of Bulloch County attorney Kelley Kidd.

Kidd died on June 14, 2026, at 83 years old. During his career, he served as a public defender in the Bulloch County Public Defender’s Office of the Ogeechee Judicial Circuit.

“The City of Statesboro joins our community in mourning the passing of Attorney Kelley Kidd,” Mayor McCollar wrote in a statement on Facebook. “Kelley was a man of deep conviction, a heart for justice and an unwavering belief in redemption. He dedicated his life to serving others and reminding us that people are more than their worst mistakes. His impact on our community will be felt for generations to come. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, colleagues and all who were blessed to know him.”
