Democrat Amanda Hollowell focuses on jobs, affordability, and veteran care in 1st District race

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - First-time congressional candidate Amanda Hollowell is centering her campaign on workforce development, cost-of-living relief, and support for service members as she seeks to flip Georgia’s 1st Congressional District.

Hollowell, a Democrat, is running against Republican Jim Kingston for the seat representing southeast Georgia.

A central piece of Hollowell’s platform is a 10-point affordability plan that includes protecting labor unions, raising the federal minimum wage, expanding affordable housing options, and addressing health care costs. She has also emphasized strengthening higher education and job training initiatives.

Coming from a military household, Hollowell points to her deep family ties to the armed forces — including a father who served in Vietnam, a brother who retired as a command sergeant major and a sister who worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs. She pledged to prioritize veterans and military families in Washington.

On foreign policy, Hollowell addressed ongoing overseas conflict, calling for a diplomatic exit strategy to reduce economic strain on everyday Americans.

“We’ve had several pacts that were actually impactful that started under Obama and continued under President Biden,” Hollowell said. “We can go back to the table of negotiation with them because what we have found is our farmers, our manufacturing, just even our groceries are all impacted by this war, and we have created a problem by an unconstitutional war, you know, administered by this administration.”

Hollowell is expected to join supporters at her election night gathering ahead of the evening’s results.
