Bulloch County man arrested in 2015 killing of Betty Jean King

BULLOCH COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A man has been arrested in the 2015 homicide of Betty Jean King, the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office said. Perry Edwards was booked into the Bulloch County Jail on Oct. 29 and is being held awaiting arraignment.

The 2015 investigation
A family member found King’s body inside her home on George Road in Bulloch County on June 6, 2015. King had multiple blunt force injuries.
Deputies and investigators with the Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene, processed evidence and began an investigation.

Investigators submitted evidence to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Crime Lab and conducted interviews. The case went cold.
Continued review leads to charges
In the years that followed, investigators and crime scene technicians continued to review witness statements and physical evidence to develop new leads.
Investigators established probable cause against Edwards. Arrest warrants were issued for him on June 16, 2026. The Bulloch County Grand Jury indicted him on Sept. 20, 2026.

District Attorney Catherine Sumner charged Edwards with malice murder, felony murder (three counts), aggravated assault, aggravated battery and false imprisonment.
