Benton Boulevard resurfacing project brings overnight lane closures to Savannah

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - Drivers traveling through northern Savannah should prepare for overnight lane closures and potential traffic delays over the next month.

The City of Savannah announced it has begun a major resurfacing project on Benton Boulevard. Crews will mill and resurface approximately 2.25 miles of the roadway from the Pooler city limits to Highlands Boulevard.

According to city officials, deep pavement patching is currently underway. Overnight milling and paving operations are scheduled to begin on Friday, July 31, 2026, and will continue nightly until the project is finished.

The entire project is expected to take three to four weeks, depending on the weather.

To help minimize the impact on daytime commuters, all construction activities will take place during overnight hours, though they will require temporary lane closures.

Overnight Work Hours:

• Friday – Saturday: 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m.
• Sunday – Thursday: 8:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m.

Motorists are strongly encouraged to use extra caution when traveling through the work zone, pay close attention to changing traffic patterns, and factor in additional travel time during the construction period.
