WTOC Exclusive: Court records sealed for detective who lied under oath
CHATHAM COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - WTOC Investigates has learned Darryl Repress, the former Savannah Police Department detective accused of lying under oath in a triple homicide case, has pleaded guilty to all charges.
We couldn’t go through the court system to find out how Repress’ case ended because those files have been sealed from the public.
However, WTOC Investigates has obtained paperwork showing Repress’ guilty plea.
Repress was indicted in May 2024 on charges of perjury, violation of oath by a public officer, and making a false statement.
The violation of oath charges stemmed from several policy violations in which Repress had an inappropriate relationship with a convicted felon, and lied about it.
The perjury charge stems from a case involving Jerrell Williams, who was arrested in connection with a 2015 triple homicide. Repress has now admitted to falsely testifying that witness identified Williams as leaving the crime scene, when that witness did not.
That case was ultimately thrown out by the Chatham County District Attorney’s Office (DAO) after following Repress’ indictment.
Prior to the case being disposed, Williams spent over two years behind bars.
Repress’ plea paperwork shows he will serve 10 years probation, and that he can’t be a police officer again in any state. Repress already had his Georgia POST certification revoked in April 2024.
Attorney Jonah Pine, who represented Williams on the murder charges, gave a statement to WTOC saying, “We express gratitude that the District Attorney’s Office was willing to investigate and prosecute a corrupt police officer.”
The record of his case has been sealed under the Georgia First Offender Act, which means if Repress does everything he’s supposed to do, he won’t have a conviction on his record.
We reached out to the DAO for comment. A spokesperson said the office cannot comment, as the records in the case were sealed by a judge.
