BAXLEY, Ga. (WTOC) - Two kids were injured in a shooting in Baxley, GA, over the weekend, WTOC has confirmed with the City of Baxley Police Department.
According to Baxley Police Chief Jeffery Taylor, on Sunday, October 12, 2025, officers with the Baxley Police Department responded to the 1100 block of Lawanna Drive in reference to a ‘shots fired’ call.
Chief Taylor says that, upon arrival, officers identified two juvenile victims who had received gunshot wounds.
The Chief says both victims were flown to Appling County Hospital for further treatment.
“This investigation is ongoing,” Chief Taylor says.
Anyone with information about this case is asked to please contact the Baxley Police Department at 912-367-8305.
The Appling County School District sent the following letter to parents:

The letter says, “As some of you may have heard, we had some students who were involved in a shooting off campus over our long weekend. We are asking for prayers for those who were injured and for their healing.”
The email to parents continues, “We do not condone violence and are saddened to hear about the actions of our students away from school.”
They also addressed whether the students involved would be allowed back.
“Those involved in the violence will not be allowed back on our campus. With that being said, we will take additional security measures for the foreseeable future.”
That includes using weapons detection systems at the schools’ entrances, limiting unnecessary movement of students throughout the day, and heightened administration/SRD presence throughout the building.
This is a developing story and we will provide more updates as they become available.
