I-95 reopens in Camden County after brushfire forces emergency shutdown

CAMDEN COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - Interstate 95 has reopened in Camden County after a wildfire and heavy smoke forced an emergency shutdown of a stretch of the highway Wednesday.

Georgia State Patrol closed I-95 between Exit 14 and Exit 22 after a brush fire broke out along the interstate, creating dangerous visibility conditions for drivers. All traffic was directed off the highway between those exits while the situation was addressed.

Georgia State Patrol announced the reopening after wildfire hazards diminished, saying conditions were safe enough to allow travel in the area. Motorists are advised to proceed with caution.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews worked to implement a full signed detour during the closure.

It is unclear at this time if any injuries were reported in connection with the fire or the closure.
