Traffic shift impacting thousands of drivers in Bryan County starts next week
RICHMOND HILL, Ga. (WTOC) - The Georgia Department of Transportation said it will shift all three lanes on I-95 over U.S. Highway 17 as part of a bridge maintenance project.
"As part of the bridge maintenance project, L. C. Whitford Co., Inc. will be shifting all three lanes of traffic east (left) utilizing the inside shoulder on I-95 South at Exit 87 interchange bridge over US 17 beginning Tuesday, August 5 as part of the overall project’s maintenance staging plans," they wrote in a press release.
Traffic will continue to use the route, though, but drivers should expect major travel delays on Sunday, August 3, and Monday, Aug. 4, while contractors modify striping. Double-lane closures will have to happen because of this, according to GDOT, overnight on Monday.
Overnight on Friday, Aug. 15, the traffic shift will be reduced to two lanes until Monday, Aug. 18, to complete the remaining bridge maintenance work.
Drivers should be aware that personnel and equipment will be operating in close proximity.
